Bridging the gap between animals and computers

Our research group, directed by Dr. Ilyena Hirskyj-Douglas, explores the design of technology tailored for animal usage, investigate ways in which animals can interact and control technology, and creates internet-enabled technology to enhance the lives of animals. At our core, we place a strong emphasis on developing ethically centred technologies for animals.

Researching Collaborativly

We research with universities internationally, including MIT, NorthEastern, Melbourne and Aalto University.

Working with Industry and NonProfits

We consult for industry, like Samsung EU and have published with Microsoft and Snapchat. We develop pioneering systems in collaboration with partners such as Blair Drummond Safari park and Korkeasaari Zoo. We have given talks on animals and technology advising on policy to the accrediting body of Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) to ensure standards of technology used in zoos.
